Let's Get Away from It All

Andrew Targoff

"Let's Get Away From It All" is part folk song and part country. If you've ever been cooped up in a large city for a long time, you can really identify with the message. I wrote, arranged, sang all parts, played rhythm & lead guitar, & tenor recorder.

"Let's Get Away From It All" is part easy listening, part folk song, and part country. It would make a great theme song for a travel agency or website. I spent my first 30 years in New York City, and I rarely got out of town. The song was originally written over 30 years ago, but I recently revised and updated the words. If you've ever been cooped up in a large city for a long time, you can really identify with the message. I wrote it right after I visited a rural section of New Hampshire, and realized how passionately I had needed to get away. The song has great harmonies, lead guitar, and tenor recorder. I pieced the parts together like a jigsaw puzzle, spending lots of time in my home studio. I took a singing course in the middle of recording the harmony parts, so you really hear my head voice in the background vocals from about the middle of the song onward. Here are the lyrics: Let’s Get Away From It All ©by Andrew Targoff Drive for twenty miles down an empty highway See the swallows and swallow some fresh, clean, air Go for a swim or two and feel the waves crash Close my eyes and feel nature everywhere

Let’s climb trees, somehow I missed it in my younger times Let’s taste that sweet country lifestyle Need to grow out of my confines I’ve had enough of the city for awhile

Let’s get away from it all, Pack up and leave for a spell Let’s get away from it all, Escape from our little shell

Don’t wanna hurry, Don’t wanna worry Don’t wanna be overworked, For too little money Wanna feel strong, Need to free up my mind Just to sit back and hang loose with my honey

Been too long, since I’ve seen horses and farms Or roads without concrete, Or scenes of rustic charm I wanna stand somewhere, Where you can’t see a building anywhere Just animals and trees, and water falling into seas

Drive for twenty miles down an empty highway See the swallows and swallow some fresh, clean, air Go for a swim or two and feel the waves crash Close my eyes and feel nature everywhere

Let’s get away from it all, Pack up and leave for a spell Let’s get away from it all, Escape from our little shell Let’s get away from it all, Pack up and leave Let’s get away from it all, Pack up and leave Let’s get away from it all

After We Kissed

Andrew Targoff

Hi, I'm Andrew Targoff. I am a singer songwriter who produces my own songs. This is a love song describing how I met my wife during the years, 1985-1987. It's best listened with headphones because of the different harmonies in different locations.

Hi, I'm Andrew Targoff. I'm really excited about my new song, "After We Kissed," because it's the story of how I met my wife over 30 years ago. I wrote, arranged, sang all parts, and played the piano fills to the song. I love how the harmonies are placed in different places. It's like virtual reality of sound when you listen with head phones. It also reflects what is going on in the story.

Lyrics: After We Kissed, by Andrew Targoff Most memories are like last week’s dream But ours are etched in my mind Our love is a great composer’s theme Remaining vivid for all time

I had just moved to Brookline for music school Escaped from my tiny third floor room Footsteps echoed through the vestibule When I detected the hint of perfume

Then you appeared with your radiant smile I said, “I’m your neighbor from apartment three.” We chatted for a little while About how the winter had been so stormy

In the back of my mind, I hoped, as time went on Our hearts would mesh like the breaking dawn

After we kissed, I knew I hadn’t been kissed like that before, Hadn’t had the love that I wished for, Hadn’t been touched so tenderly
After we kissed, We’d both longed for this for so long.
That’s when I knew you loved me, After we kissed.

Two years danced by like life’s ballet As I moved back and forth from the city Every once and a while along the way I wondered about my friend who looked so pretty

I was working as a cashier in the health food store When suddenly you came into my view Like the birds know how to fly and the waves find the shore I had to reconnect with you

I knew there was no more time to wait So I finally arranged for our first date

After we kissed, I knew I hadn’t been kissed like that before, Hadn’t had the love that I wished for, Hadn’t been touched so tenderly
After we kissed, We’d both longed for this for so long.
That’s when I knew you loved me, After we kissed.

Your eyes still keep drawing me nearer Your words still make me feel freer And when your arms hold me You know I never feel lonely

Excitement bristled in the New England air As we pulled into the Chestnut Hill movies Whatever we were seeing, I didn’t really care My fantasy was right in front of me

Your scent left me in an enchanted blur I held your hand and I couldn’t let go We ducked behind a white-tiled pillar Instead of heading into the show

Our gaze was steadfast and engrossing I stroked your face and pulled you closer

After we kissed, I knew I hadn’t been kissed like that before, Hadn’t had the love that I wished for, Hadn’t been touched so tenderly
After we kissed, We’d both longed for this for so long.
That’s when I knew you loved me, After we kissed.

Sing Me a Song

Andrew Targoff

"Sing Me a Song" was originally written from a dream I had, which expressed to me the importance of pursuing my passion to become a singer-songwriter. It's got a "Bossa Nova" beat.

Hi, my name is Andy Targoff.
Here is some information about me, so you can get to know my background.

I’ve been playing guitar and singing for the past 46 years. Since then, I have also learned to play many other instruments, and I have developed an improvisational style on keyboards. I began as a folk singer, but have since gained experience in many genres.

I graduated Berklee College of Music, in Boston, with highest honors in 1988. I studied guitar there with the late William Leavitt, who wrote the widely renowned series of books called, “A Modern Method for Guitar.” I play lead guitar on this recording. I also achieved my teaching certification for public school at that time, and I am currently a full-time public school music teacher. I received my Masters of Music at UMASS Amherst, in 1994, with a major in music composition. I have had several songs published.

On my original recordings, you will notice some background vocals. I use overdubbing to sing all the parts myself.

"Sing Me a Song" was inspired by a dream I had, encouraging me to pursue my passion as a singer-songwriter.

Thanks for Listening, Andy Targoff

Lyrics Sing Me a Song Copyright 1989, revised 2015, by Andy Targoff Dreamin’… Sing me… Dreamin’… Sing me

Days will slip away, so sing me a song, No more time to waste, sing me a song Another break of day, sing me a song,
A passion to embrace, A voice expressed to me…

Though you may go to chase the wild flowers, the city’s towers, American dream I know you gotta work, work, work to get the time to play, but We’ve got today

Days will slip away, so sing me a song, No more time to waste, sing me a song Another break of day, sing me a song,
A passion to embrace, The dream appeared to me…

Up on the hill I saw the people dancing, singing, laughing, clapping their hands Some were arm in arm, with children skipping along, Some had formed a circle singing songs

Two folks stretched their arms out to their full span, And the others jumped under like the limbo dance Musicians jamming, I could see them swaying I heard the music playing, I remember the music playing And this is what I heard them saying,

Days will slip away, so sing me a song, No more time to waste, sing me a song Another break of day, sing me a song,
A passion to embrace, A voice bellowed to me

Though you may have to take the Monday train, rolling through the rain, To make your pay and be free Gotta break out your guitar and play, You’ve got so much to say, and We’ve got today

Days will slip away, so sing me a song, No more time to waste, sing me a song Another break of day, sing me a song,
A passion to embrace, The chorus sang to me

Days will slip away, so sing me a song, No more time to waste, sing me a song Another break of day, sing me a song,
A passion to embrace, Woke up remembering Woke up remembering, Woke up remembering…

Dreamin’… Sing me… Dreamin’… Sing me… Dreaming

Right Now

Andrew Targoff

"Right Now" is basically a new-age, folky, ballad. The song is about living in the moment and not worrying about the past or the future. All the harmony parts are sung by me, using overdubbing.

The message of the song is, live your life "Right Now" instead of focusing on your worries. It's written from my own experiences and point of view, but I am hoping it will resonate with other people. I started out as a folk singer in the 1970s. I've learned different genres, and many of my songs are in other genres, but I'm still drawn to folk music. Because of the wonders of modern technology, I am so thankful and happy to be able to record this song myself, add the vocal harmonies myself, and have the song distributed to many people through different media.

Lyrics: Right Now By Andy Targoff Right now, I’ll do all I can Right now, I’ll be all I can Right now, I’ll love all I can Won’t you sing it with me, right now

I could sulk about what I did wrong, How my dreams have been taking so long How I chose the wrong path, cause I didn’t do the math But I’d rather be singing this song

Right now, I’ll do all I can Right now, I’ll be all I can Right now, I’ll love all I can Won’t you sing it with me, right now

I could worry what might happen some day A tsunami might sweep me away Or I could lose my home, or be totally alone, But I’d rather just go out and play

Right now, I’ll do all I can Right now, I’ll be all I can Right now, I’ll love all I can Won’t you sing it with me, right now

Robots could take over The sun might go nova A meteor could land right on me The Russians might bomb us, But I’m not Nostradamus So I think I’ll just go climb a tree

Right now, I’ll do all I can Right now, I’ll be all I can Right now, I’ll love all I can Won’t you sing it with me, right now

I won’t fret about what makes me frightened Or whether I’ll ever be enlightened I won’t trouble my mind That someone might be unkind ‘Cause I’d rather be sittin’ here writin’

Right now, I’ll do all I can Right now, I’ll be all I can Right now, I’ll love all I can Won’t you sing it with me, right now

Feelin' Love

Andrew Targoff

This song was originally written as a holiday song, but can be played year-round; it's beautiful sounding with nice harmonies.

Feelin’ Love is a song about friendship and family. The mood is, “Feel-good” and, “Emotional.” It was originally written as a holiday song, but can be enjoyed universally, year-round. I wrote, arranged, and produced the song. I sang all the parts and played lead guitar. This song was first written in 1980, but I modified the lyrics, and I arranged and produced the song this year. I play many instruments, but I am most proficient at guitar and piano. Being a singer-songwriter has been my passion since the early 1970’s. I started out playing in coffee houses in New York City.
This past year, I have redoubled my efforts as a singer-songwriter because I became aware of the opportunities for independent musicians to get songs distributed through places such as CD Baby and to get songs heard on internet and non-commercial radio stations. I am so happy that my music can now be heard by thousands of people.

Lyrics Feelin' Love, by Andrew Targoff

Glidin’, ridin’ on a northbound railroad My mind immersed in mellow tones Just askin’ for an easy day for everyone in my home There’s a little chill with the snowflakes fallin’ Winds are whistling, winter’s callin’

Good time spirit in the air, Lively colors everywhere Love to see the friendly faces Old and young, it’s so amazing, Smiling together, feels so right, My heart is light, wanna shine so bright

Feelin’ Love, feelin’ love, feelin’ love, feelin’ love Caring, giving, joyful living, Feel the feeling, light the lights Cherish all our time together, Celebrate the night

Store displays with singing puppets, Little men with golden trumpets Fairy tales that come to life for the children gathered ‘round Across the street the people rushin’, Spaceships zoomin’, buzzers buzzin’

Lights adorning houses glowin’, Through the years the friendships growin’ Memories of fine times flowing will never blow away Nor the precious moments that I found, Just clownin’ around hearing pretty sounds
