Let's Get Away from It All

Andrew Targoff

"Let's Get Away From It All" is part folk song and part country. If you've ever been cooped up in a large city for a long time, you can really identify with the message. I wrote, arranged, sang all parts, played rhythm & lead guitar, & tenor recorder.

"Let's Get Away From It All" is part easy listening, part folk song, and part country. It would make a great theme song for a travel agency or website. I spent my first 30 years in New York City, and I rarely got out of town. The song was originally written over 30 years ago, but I recently revised and updated the words. If you've ever been cooped up in a large city for a long time, you can really identify with the message. I wrote it right after I visited a rural section of New Hampshire, and realized how passionately I had needed to get away. The song has great harmonies, lead guitar, and tenor recorder. I pieced the parts together like a jigsaw puzzle, spending lots of time in my home studio. I took a singing course in the middle of recording the harmony parts, so you really hear my head voice in the background vocals from about the middle of the song onward. Here are the lyrics: Let’s Get Away From It All ©by Andrew Targoff Drive for twenty miles down an empty highway See the swallows and swallow some fresh, clean, air Go for a swim or two and feel the waves crash Close my eyes and feel nature everywhere

Let’s climb trees, somehow I missed it in my younger times Let’s taste that sweet country lifestyle Need to grow out of my confines I’ve had enough of the city for awhile

Let’s get away from it all, Pack up and leave for a spell Let’s get away from it all, Escape from our little shell

Don’t wanna hurry, Don’t wanna worry Don’t wanna be overworked, For too little money Wanna feel strong, Need to free up my mind Just to sit back and hang loose with my honey

Been too long, since I’ve seen horses and farms Or roads without concrete, Or scenes of rustic charm I wanna stand somewhere, Where you can’t see a building anywhere Just animals and trees, and water falling into seas

Drive for twenty miles down an empty highway See the swallows and swallow some fresh, clean, air Go for a swim or two and feel the waves crash Close my eyes and feel nature everywhere

Let’s get away from it all, Pack up and leave for a spell Let’s get away from it all, Escape from our little shell Let’s get away from it all, Pack up and leave Let’s get away from it all, Pack up and leave Let’s get away from it all
